LIGHT POLLUTION

Every Light Has Its Shadow

LIGHT POLLUTION: A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CENTRAL EUROPE

Europe is one of the most illuminated areas of the world at night, and light pollution has proven detrimental to biodiversity and human health, while also raising questions of energy cost, safety, and our ancestral link with stars observation.

The Sentinel Alliance aims to raise awareness on this issue and foster a solution-oriented attitude toward preserving ecosystems and biodiversity, showing that dark skies can be a competitive asset for sustainable development in non-urbanised areas.

IMPACTS ON ECOSYSTEM SERVICES

The aim of the Alliance is to become pioneering territories in the promotion of dark skies and all related advantages, in order to inspire other territories to take position on the subject and develop new projects in their turn.

The shared desire of this Alliance is to convince local authorities, cities, tourism professionals, and industries to reduce their use of lights during the night, showing the benefits of this decision to inspire others to do the same.
