A Transnational Strategic Approach to Reduce Light Pollution in Central Europe

DARKERSKY4CE is an Interreg Central Europe project aimed to reduce light pollution in Central Europe by changing how it is perceived by policymakers, tourists, tourist facilities, and the local population. The project’s goal is to raise awareness of the issue and foster a positive, solution-oriented attitude to preserve ecosystems and biodiversity, highlighting that dark skies can be a competitive resource for sustainable development in non-urbanized areas.

WHY A REPOSITORY?

So far, there is no standardized data collection practice. For this reason we developed a digital repository to collect and harmonise night-sky brightness and light pollution measurements and data. It provides an easy and intuitive access to the data of existing instruments, networks and satellites that operates in Central Europe and beyond, providing all the information needed to interpret the data both to a generalistic and specific public.

This repository is managed by INAF as part of the Interreg Central Europe project DARKERSKY4CE, co-funded by the European Union.
