LIGHT SOURCES
Sport Centres
Recreational sports lighting is often designed to effectively illuminate the field of play while minimizing glare and light trespass, though this is not always achieved. Sports complexes (e.g. football stadiums, handball fields, tennis courts, and athletics arenas) and sports facilities (e.g. golf courses, ice rinks, and swimming complexes) can contribute to ALAN, particularly when they have lights for evening training or events.
STADIUMS
In cities and countries where football is a prominent part of the culture, stadiums are typically situated near the city centre, significantly contributing to the high intensity of lighting in urban areas. In countries with a strong sports culture, stadium lighting is unlikely to be reduced due to security and tourism concerns. One effective solution could be the use of dimming systems and advanced lighting technologies that allow for reduced light emissions without compromising the functionality of the lighting.
